There aren't many words that will be needed that can add to the powerful point this video makes.  A friend of mine said this

The most difficult days on the job are the ones that involve the innocents. The smallest and most helpless of our society are the ones that hurt us the most. I don't know you. I don't know your history. I don't know what kind of parents you had, how your teachers treated you in school, how many times you've had your heartbroken and how many mistakes you've made along the way. I have zero ideas of how you became the unique individual you are today. All I know is that you've experienced pain. You've experienced loss. You've had dreams and ambitions. I know that you've likely felt misunderstood, underestimated, and down for the count at one point or another in your life time. Even though I know all of these things, I still don't know you. Eight months ago, just before the effective date of my resignation from my former employer, I was injured in the line of duty. The injury seemed relatively minor, nothing more than a tweaked wrist on my dominate side. The worker’s comp doctor assured me it was just a deep bone bruise and nothing to worry about. I went through with my resignation and moved 1800 miles across the country in a leap of faith to join my now-wife in her home state.

Police work can be exhausting. No, that's not really a complaint; it's just a statement of fact. I don't say that to garner sympathy from anyone nor in any effort to say that other jobs aren't exhausting. But law enforcement does come with its own set of unique stresses.  It can be physically exhausting due to working in any number of harsh environments, the physical confrontations we may encounter, etc. It can be emotionally and spiritually draining because of how often we see people at their worst, deplorable circumstances or our brothers/sisters falling at the hands of an assailant or tragically, their own.
